Wild islets, native iguanas, and a local drink in the shallow turquoise water.
Departing from the fishing port · Le François, Martinique
We set off from the Le François fishing port to reach Îlet Chancel, home to the island's last native iguanas, before heading to the crystal-clear waters around the François islets. Mask and snorkel in hand, we explore the coral reefs, then end the day where, for generations, locals have come to relax in eighty centimeters of turquoise water: the Baignoire de Joséphine — literally "Joséphine's bathtub."
Accras (fritters), drinks, and good vibes included. An authentic trip, off the beaten track, led by Flo and his crew.
The nickname dates back to when he was six. On Albert's boat — now 97, a fisherman his whole life — little Florent copied his grandfather's every move with a seriousness that made the whole port smile. People started calling him Ti Papi, "little Papi." The name stuck — and so did what Albert taught him: reading the wind before it picks up, spotting a school of fish by the color of the water, respecting what the sea gives.
Today it's Florent at the helm, carrying that memory on board with him every trip — not a rehearsed tourist script, but the perspective of someone who has known every islet since childhood, and who takes as much pleasure showing them as Albert once did showing him.
More than a boat trip, it's a piece of family history told on the water — one that will give real depth to your day out.
Looking for something more thrilling? Florent also offers a traditional fishing trip — full day, departing 6am from the Le François fishing port, returning by 4pm at the latest. All gear provided (fishing rod and more). Rum punch, juice and snacks (brie and ham & cheese sandwiches) included. €200 per person, minimum 4 people.
